Scott and Troy moved to Maggie Valley opened a store called The Tarnished Swan in 1982 in a 400 square foot space with two thousand dollars borrowed from family. Scott worked in the store during the day and in the evenings and Troy waited tables at a restaurant called J. Aurthur’s.
We expanded in the fall of 1986 when a new shopping complex right in the center of Maggie Valley. Troy thought it would be a good idea to rent a store there so that’s when we opened our new store called Cabbage Rose. We sold Tarnished Swan after a year to focus on sales from Cabbage Rose.  We have no floral or design training but despite that folks in the area think our store is lovely and really like our floral arrangements and displays.
We always stay on top of what the customers are looking for and pride ourselves in providing excellent customer service while offering quality merchandise at great prices. Both ladies and gentlemen love Cabbage Rose and so many have remained loyal customers. We started out with just one section of our store which was about 3000 square feet and now we have grown to over 10,000 feet.  We have it all: Ladies Apparel, Fashion Jewelry, Florals , Home Accents, Bath and Body Products, Art, Potpourri and a 2500 Square foot Christmas Shop.
Visiting the Cabbage Rose is not just another shopping trip…it is truly an experience to remember, a memory to tuck away when you look back on your good times in the Mountains. Cabbage Rose has become a Destination Store because people travel from all over to shop at Cabbage Rose, usually two or three visits per trip.
We look forward to seeing you when you visit Maggie Valley.  Can’t make the trip to see us…shop on this retail site to purchase any of our products.

Cabbage roses (Rosa centifolia), or Provence roses, were developed in the 17th and 18th centuries by Dutch breeders and were favorite subjects in the Old Dutch Masters paintings. Best known for their "one hundred-petaled," cabbagelike bloom shape, these old garden roses are crosses between alba (Rosa alba) and damask (Rosa damascena) roses and usually bloom only once per season. They are tough, winter-hardy, disease-resistant plants with coarse leaves and long canes that nod under the weight of their dense, fragrant blooms. They range in color from dark pink to lavender and, depending on the variety, are generally hardy in U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zones 5 through 11.
